We seem to share a love for Hibiscus! First two pics are of perennial hibiscus, they are huge! Dinner plate size. The last one is a double hibiscus.

Thank you! I hope you have had a good week as well! I would love to share some pics with you in the next day or two to get your advice on what I should be doing. I was getting so discouraged at about week 2, my babies were not looking healthy at all, but after transplanting they are really getting exciting! …and I feel this way after only one month of growing! Hope you have a great turkey day.

Is this an auto flower white widow? Is this what I have to look forward to??? I sure hope so!!!

@Kris Hibiscus makes SUCH a wonderful tea! Topic question…Do any of you ever MIX beneficial herbs (like Hops/Valerian/Ginger/Turmeric etc) with cannabis to make unique tinctures or capsules for yourself… (Not sure how it would work in “smoking/Toking”) I’m thinking infused liquids/butters/oils/tinctures or honeys?

Me thinks I should research this! :mag_right:

I’m not sure if these are big enough yet to worry about doing anything to them? The first one is a Strawberry cough, the second pic is of autoflower white widow. Any suggestions for now or just let them grow a bit more ? They are 4 1/2 weeks old. Thank you…and happy Thanksgiving

Whoops…the Strawberry Cough lost part of a leaf due to me letting the fly trap fall down when trying to raise the light :(. Now I have a half leaf embedded on my fly trap LOL!! So thankful I threw out all the Kelloggs organic soil I had been using. Way too many gnats!

Kris - Happy ThanksGiving! Strawberry is about 80% sativa so I would fim / top that little girl. You get some stretch outa that so LST will keep her down and help with keeping tops like a canopy. WW likes to grow into a large cola with buds at the nodes, I would maybe top once cause she is an auto. Then leave her alone

Hey Kris.

I’m in a different camp than most people on autos.
Latrobe University in Aus. did a study on touch sensitivity in plants. Turns out plants hate being touched by humans. The act of touching them can delay growth and change the plant on a genetic level. They start producing different hormones to protect themselves and this causes slow growth as energy is diverted from growing into protecting the plant.
I don’t touch my autos aside from up potting them. I do transplant them but I’m confident in my ability to do it with as little stress as possible.
Photos have recovery time that isn’t afforded with autos, so topping has less of an effect on them. You can delay flower until the plant repairs itself. Autos you can’t since they have an indeterminate flowering time which you have no control over. Now throw phenotypes into the mix. Autos aren’t known for being bred to stability like some of the photoperiods like the Cheese strains. Some of them look almost like clones if grown from seed. Whomever bred them did a fantastic job at stabilizing their genetics.

If you have the room I would try to grow them naturally. You can get massive top colas on some of the strains if they are allowed to grow unhindered.
I can see that you are in pails so it would appear that you want larger plants?

I suggest checking out the touch sensitivity article and making your own decision. Even if you decide to go a different way it still may be of interest.

I’m not saying that people can’t grow fantastic autos if they top. I just think they are not necessarily getting the best out if their plants.

I can do a side by side photo clone run to compare weights between topped and untopped. I’ll have no problem eating my words if I’m wrong. Two clone in identical growing conditions with identical feeding schedules. I’ll probably do that in my 2x4. I’ll have to wait a few months to have the room. I’m all full up at the moment.

Hope y’all have a good day. And I’m sorry I only had time to respond to Kris.
I have to get my butt in the kitchen or we will be eating late.

Happy T-day y’all.

Thank you so much for your response! I did transplant my auto’s when they were a little over two weeks old (due to bad soil) and they recovered nicely…but I did put them in 3 1/2 Gallon buckets so I won’t need to transplant again. I had never heard of auto’s before, so this is a first for me. I have read that they are sensitive, so I think I’ll follow your example and just let them be. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with them.

I have my 3 auto’s in 3 1/2 gallon buckets, my 3 Strawberry cough are in 7 gal. Buckets. I thought giving them all the most room to spread their roots would be a good idea. Yes, I would love the largest plants I can grow! LOL…but then, doesn’t everyone?

This forum is a fun learning experience. I read some of the information, then have to research what a lot of it means.
Topping compared to cutting the growing tip? Fimming I think it’s called? The SOG compared to ??? LOL…this is all new fun and now that my plants are doing so well is really exciting! They are only one month old but I can already smell them and I love it!

Thanks again! :blue_heart:

My GG4 was scoped this morning.
She’s done. I’ll chop tomorrow evening after she dries out.
I liked the effect that the Purpinator had on her. It gave her lovely lavender buds in the end. I may be more heavy handed with it the next time around.
Showed pics to the grower that gifted her to me.
He’s a tough sell usually. He was very pleased with how she turned out. She was barely alive in the clone shipper when I got her and it took a long time to turn her around.

I’m beyond stoked to try her. I’ve wanted one since I started growing.

This lil gal came up on Thanksgiving day.

She is a Green Crack from WeedSeedsExpress (WSE).
I’m trying the Geoflora Organic nutes on her in Pro Mix all-purpose. Not pHing anything. We will see if that continues to work with this line but I see no reason why it wouldn’t. Pro Mix buffers their medium well.
WSE sent the Sexxpot and the Charlotte’s Web as well. I need to sprout another Charlotte for them pretty soon. I’ll do that in a few weeks here.
Hope I don’t get another mutant and it’s smooth sailing. I would like to continue to work with them and that depends upon my performance as a grower. They have a few strains that I’d really like to try out.

Sexxpot is rapidly building her buds. I’m going to up her nutes a touch. She has a few leaves that warrant an adjustment. Don’t want her to slow down at all.

She still has quite a way to go. Her buds are gonna be chunky. Can’t wait!!

Yes we do @Kris! Ever since I went to Costa Rica I fell in love with these. I try to grow a bit of other types of plants to keep things colorful.
Also, my mom always told me that the best plants are the ones you “acquire” and not buy. Take a snip of a plant here, a cutting there, grab some seeds dropping off the plants, etc. And I have noticed that those plants tend to do better. :slightly_smiling_face:
And that double hibiscus is gorgeous! I live in a warm summer/cold winter area, so I need to keep things indoors in the winter

Hey Bill. I love the colors as well. Seeing how pineapples grow was a new one for me while visiting Costa Rica. Such a big plant for one pineapple!
I also live in a state where I need to bring my tropicals in for the winter. As for color in the yard, I plant hundreds of vinca’s every year. I gather the seeds in the fall and start them inside and transfer outside when the weather warms up.
Kinda funny you mention acquiring plants…last summer my husband went on base to purchase a plant. As he was leaving he saw a piece of variegated wandering Jew on the ground. He picked it up and asked the cashier if it was ok for him to take. I don’t know how clear it is in the pic, (purple color on right of pic) but that thing is going crazy!!

Happy growing!!

I am a WANDERING JEW! Problem is, I live in the desert. Now I know how my people wandered for 40 years. Spin me around and I am lost! Oh wait, that must be the memory loss from marijuana use
