Big versus small yields

Slingshot, I grow basically for my own consumption and I can only use up an ounce in a year. As a result, I grow small. I believe that THC content and taste are more a result of genetics and growing conditions. Reducing harshness is usually a result of proper drying and curing.

@CkNugz I am a lightweight; I did quit pot for 30 years, though.

Iā€™m probably at 4.

Quittingā€™s easy! Iā€™ve done it thousands of times!

Gads, couple grams a dayā€¦pound and a half a year at current consumption levels. That may go up once I retire soon!

@spudgunner My consumption doubled once a harvest was cured. Dude, you better get growinā€™! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Darodguy I know! Buddy is supposed to take cuttings this weekend, so I hope to have something under lights before the end of the month!

My Christmas crop worked out to 12 ounces, itā€™ll be cutting it close. Hope I donā€™t have to go buy a dispensary ounce to hold me thru :frowning:

Summer should be better, Iā€™ll have my 4 under lights and probably 6 or 8 in the hills.

@spudgunner Aaah, the hills. If only I had some hills. I always preferred sun-grown buds, but its just been not quite legal here, so Iā€™ve learned how to be covert.
On another note, anybody know how to get a picture in that circle by your name?

@Darodguy click on your ā€œDā€ icon top right, go to Profiles (the head on right tab). You can then go in and click on it again and edit/add a profile picture. Now I found out, I should do that too!

Itā€™s been legal here for 3 years now. But Vancouver was always a gray zoneā€¦we had dispensaries openly selling weed for years with cops busting them. Public harm is low, cops more interested in busting crack and fentanyl dealers than those selling weed to medical patients. And it was easy to get a medical cardā€¦see ANY doctor or ā€œnaturopathicā€ person. I got one to cure my insomnia! Which I donā€™t have, sleep like a baby (whale) after a puff! You could always smell weed walking down the street.

Hills, creeks, riversā€¦find a private spot and sow your wild oats! Errrr, make that seeds!

@spudgunner Thanks a bunch, got it!

I am not into for bragging rights either. My first grow yielded 7 to 8 ozs and I just finished that bud up since oct of 20. All nice and potent. It is not the amount but the quality that matters.

What a great toplc! You all made so many great points in the first half. I am no expert, but I have an opinion based not on scientific research, but on experience. One thing I believe is that clones have 100% genetic retention. You can take a clone from a clone from a cloneā€¦ and they will be the same. Raise those clones under different conditions and they will vary. I have done that. Thai will be Thai will be Thai. Talking about making a separate cultivar, you are way beyond anything I am capable of and more power to you for it.

Back to the topic at hand; I grow small, not because I think that I get better quality buds, but because I only have 15" by 18 " to grow in. Only about 2 sq ft. I only have room for 1 plant at a time, and a small one at that. So I try to make it the best quality that I can. I have most of the bases covered: exhaust fan, fresh air intake, an led light array, UV light, soil and water PH monitors, light intensity meter, drop-down lights ranging from 6300 K to 2700 K for personalizing the light spectrom to the stages of growth, and programmable timers for the lights and exhaust. Oh yeah, also temp monitors. I use good soil and the only nutes I use is Flower Fuel. I have water PH issues so I use apple cider vinegar to adjust it. The only other additives I use are mollasses and worm castings. One thing I tried my last grow was turning the light intensity down to 70-80% an hour or so before lights out, which meant I had to turn them up after lights on, simulating evening and morning light during the last few weeks of flower. All of this combined worked quite well to enhance terps and increase THC potency, I believe. Or maybe I just got a lucky pheno-type. We will see.

If you read all of this post, I hope you got some thing out of it that you can use in your grows. Enjoy!

Very nice write up. Sounds like you are exceptionally efficient with your space.

Whatā€™s more important than space efficiency is being covert. When the Grandkids come to stay I canā€™t be Grandpa stoner. That would be a bad thing.

Same here. Actually my grandsons are sitting right beside me now. They are 7 and 4. We have a lot of gardening going on so they really donā€™t notice.
But last winter, while I was tent growing, they would come visit and asked what it was.
We just said we were growing seedlings to put in the garden in the spring.
We also told some very straight friends that we were growing our own CBD. Itā€™s a pretty big crop here.
I switch from smoke to vape. A couple of times they asked but and I simply said I was vaping and that was that
Oh course, your situation could be different.

Mine are 9 & 11, both boys. My growing room (closet) has a real lock on the door, which is always locked when they are here because some shooting supplies are stored there, so there is a built in reason to keep them out. I just have to be diligent about keeping light from leaking out of cracks and the sound of fans. Covid has given me a great excuse to have an air purifier running full time just outside that door. Works great! They have shown no interest in that closet, yet. Tee-hee.
