Difference between topping and fimming

@kmac03 I agree. He is certainly a naturally skilled cultivator. Takes instruction very well too. He’s a good dude.

I have to admit I’ve taken more screenshots from this forum than any I’ve ever been on and reread them to learn what everybody was saying. So if not for your direction and my rereading I probably wouldn’t be doing as good so thank you again everyone who’s given me help with my grow

You folks make me jealous with these phenomenal looking grows. I’m getting there, but everything I’m learning here is new. I did the same as @dmtscravey did at first - topping and leaf trimming is about it. Even then mine didn’t like as good as these!

Regardless, you guys are a godsend in terms of support for this “hobby”. Thanks to all!!!

Thankfully, it’s not a competition, My Friend. I think I remember seeing some of your pictures and you aren’t so bad yourself. Don’t sell yourself short.

Like they said it’s not a competition it’s more of a brother and Sisterhood of like-minded people all striving for the same thing. Anything I can do to help let me know. I appreciate everybody on here and all the advice I’ve been given it has helped immensely!

Question for the group:
I keep hearing the term “popcorn buds”. Although I know what they are, my question is why are they “looked down upon” in comparison to the top buds. Is it due to size? Are these smaller nugs less potent? As they say, inquiring minds would like to know!!

Here are some pics of plants vegging. I tried some of the LST on the first plant. All of these are so compact it’s hard to figure out what/how to do it. I’ve never had plants so compact. The others have been topped and fimmed, as well as large leaves have been removed. Any advice would be appreciated! (BTW, there’s one PKWR and one Gelato from seed - the rest are white widow clones). The LST plant is actually a clone.

Personally, I’ve never looked down upon them, I just leave them for processing, but I also don’t grow them on purpose. They can be an annoyance to trim if that is something a person wishes to do. Maybe that’s why?

I agree

There’s nothing wrong with popcorn buds, they just don’t look as glorious as the choicest large main colas!

They still get the job done :+1:

Those are my thoughts too @kmac03 and @Khatru. It gets the job done. And since it’s for purely personal use, I love anything I grow!

Sometimes, not always, I trim off the popcorn buds. Any branch, including the main stem, with nodes that go beyond 2, or branches that do not reach at least half way up to the height of the plant, are trimmed to force more growth to the tops. Some growers consider them suckers as they prevent the upper buds from achieving full growth.
When I do grow them, I use them specifically for my extracts. Or if I’m getting low on stock, smoekem

Last time I processed, I was running low and received some bonus gifts right on time.

@Bill I like to leave my popcorn buds on the plant and harvest the rest then lower the lights to make them swell up too. You can get a second harvest in two weeks after the main harvest. Granted it doesn’t yield nearly as much but it’s worth it imo because I usually get an extra half ounce to one ounce in buds just from letting the little guys mature.

I will definitely try that next time @MDBuds

Okay today is December 13th 2020 and I have failed to wait 8 weeks (6 wks 5 days) I turned the lights on December 11th to 12/12. These are today’s pictures and a shot of my whole grow space (64"Hx60"Lx21"W) just so you have an idea of what I’m working with. The exhaust fan is in the upper left back corner and it vents into the cabinet above that is open.

Good job all looks good

They are just smaller in size but still are potent. People just prefer the big buds off the main colas, that’s all @Bill. The larger buds is what makes us go WoW, it’s strictly about the size to some but it all gets the job done. People are willing to pay more for nice looking buds as opposed to pre-rolled or small nugs, it’s a preference.
