Roots not penetrating soil

I started seeds in 1 gallon pots in July. Now I’m ready to transplant to 3 gallon before going into flower. I’m using coco with perlite. I notice that when I water the leaf tips curl down as if they been overwatered. I was watering plants with about 1 quart of water during that time.

Now I water them with 15 to 20 ounces of water. With that amount of water there are no more over watering symptoms but I have to water every 2 to 3 days. I thought maybe the plants were getting root bound and were ready for transplanting.

When I remove some of the plants
from the pots they didn’t show any roots at the bottom which was surprising considering how long they been growing and how big plants are.

I came to the conclusion that maybe the soil is too hard and compact for root penetration. Overall plants look very healthy. This my first time using coco and I added perlite but I don’t understand why I’m having these issues. What should I do? Do you think it’s still worth transplanting?

Its not the soil causing leaf tips to curl friend.

Its the RH…
relative humidity…
Low air humidity and the plant hides its tips from the light. Its too hot for such tender tissue.

If you want to prove this, borrow a humidifier and run VPD to .90

The tips wil show to light after a bit…

Not a concern that I ever worried much over.

I get more worried when tips are brown from too much of whatever.
