Pressing kief to wax

Anyone have any idea of the what the return would be after pressing kief to wax???

@Hippy1978 depends on the purity of the kief and the heat itā€™s pressed at.

With blonde hash/kief you can get about a 20-30% yield by weight on average. Sometimes more if you dial it in perfect. If youā€™re new to it though and havenā€™t dialed in your heat and press times youā€™ll get closer to 10-15% return by weight.

@Hippy1978 thatā€™s average for the home operator btw. If you have a good press and dial it in for the cultivar (because literally every single cultivar will require different heats and times) and become ā€œprofessionalā€ with it you can actually exceed 50% returns with hash/kief. Some professionals report 60-70% yield returns. Thatā€™s pretty huge return for a solventless concentrate.

@MDBuds nice yeah itā€™s pretty clean I havenā€™t weighed it all but I bet I have 70, 80 grams of it

these are the 2 Iā€™m looking at

@Hippy1978 does it list the size of the plates? PSI during press is also dependent on the size of the plates for optimal yield.

@MDBuds

@Hippy1978 yeah that 7 ton one will work great for a home one for sure. Rectangle plates are better than the square ones and help distribute the rosin through the bags and parchment better. Less likely to get blow outs too. Based on my estimate you can easily achieve a great press with right around the maximum threshold around 1000 psi at the plates.

@MDBuds cool yeah idk much about them but from what Iā€™ve read they seem to work good, I usually go by reviews so weā€™ll see, thanks for your knowledge sir it is greatly appreciated

@MDBuds here is my take on my last grow some blueberry, zkittles/Obama kush, WW, AK47, Lemon Haze think I had 13 or 14 plant right around 2 1/2 pounds, a pound or trim or better round 85 grams of kief,

@Hippy1978 thatā€™s a good haul. Just remember to do a few small test presses to dial things in before you press everything when youā€™re switching cultivars.

@Hippy1978 nice. Thatā€™s a damn good dry then. Should be perfect for pressing too if you keep the jars 62% too. Just enough moisture in the buds to protect the cannabinoids as you press so they donā€™t burn off.

A good starting point will be 220f for 45-60 seconds and adjust from there for flower.

Kief 180f starting point for 45 seconds and adjust from there.

@MDBuds hey man, when revegging Iā€™m transplanting from 5 to 15 gallon an to do so I need to prune some roots, but how much do I go as I donā€™t want to kill err???

@Hippy1978 just a light trim around the outside of the root ball if you have a bound root system. If you donā€™t have any root binding or root rot a root prune is an unnecessary risk.

For root binding you just lightly break up the soil and just trim back the roots that are tangled together until you have a ā€œlooseā€ root system that isnā€™t all twisted up in the shape of the pot so you can transplant into a hole that is slightly raised in the middle so the roots can fall down into it and then gently cover with soil. Very similar to transplanting a root bound tree.

Root rot you just cut off everything that has rot and slime then hope for the best.

Keep as much light off the roots as possible and sanitize them before you plant in new soil. Just a quick rinse for about 30 seconds to 1 minute in a solution of 1 part h202 and 9 parts water. You can use milk too.
