Late Summer Autos --- Ahhh the heat

yeah… that’s pretty much what I do with autos. Just some defoliation, leaf tucking, and bending the stems a little as they stretch. I may run the Super Orange Haze this winter and grow some of them pine cones :). And honestly im not sure why I even kept so much on this particular plant as I don’t grow for yield but definitely wanted to see what she had in her. Don’t matter though, im excited to smoke it cause she smelling wonderful.

@Chasworks we’ve made it to day 70 from seed… Getting closer

The Pinot Noir Auto at day 75 seed. This is the last day with her top… Most the distribution is on the satellites and I’d rather drop the light down now and give the lowers a good 7-10 days with more intensity.

Here she is after snipping the top 8" and dropping the light a foot.

Nugs on the PN turned out fine as they densed up like rocks and have nice flowers down the stems.

Toof Decay day 70… Just taking her time - a good week behind the others.

Toof Decay nugs

The tent is smelling amazing… Just trying to be patient with the PN and give her 77-80 days. The FC is filling in super dense and is just a gooey mess when you dig in a little. Not sure how Toof Decay is going to finish… Still drinking water and smells great but she really is like in slow motion for an auto… Changing it up a bit and giving her center tent as she has the furthest to go…

Man! Your batting 1,000 once again! I took the largest buds from the out door: dealing with Bud Rot on her! She did her job, with the 7 clones! She will provide Sun kissed Buds to Smoke until the indoor clones come threw! :yin_yang: Going to give the lower part of the plant more time not sure how much

Looks good… they should be happy to get a little more light now. With the main tops and bud rot gone you can take your time and hopefully the lowers will finish off nicely:)

Well I made to harvest for two of them… The Toof Decay still looks like another 10 days or so. The Pinot Noir Auto went 80 days and the Forgotton Cookies Auto 83 days from seed.

Pinot Noir Auto Day 80

Anyways a few pics… I post a few of Toof Decay when she’s done and some after the dry with some totals although I topped the PN early and did take some early clips. The PN is a little more on the double grape side but overall the terpene profile is spot on. Same with the FC… Very consistent autos for terpenes. All the early clips smoked and tasted great. Both with a nice high and the PN has a nice mellow this time around instead of the put you to sleep quickly.

Couple of the early lowers off the PN ive been smoking… It really does pack massive terp to go with the frost. The trichs weren’t quite ready but the high is still very potent.

Wow! Looks like you threw sugar on them! Is it me or are the auto more colorful? My solo auto run of 4 plants were the best looking buds i ever produced: i haven’t really grown any crazy named genetics yet :yin_yang: Good times on the horizon :fire:

I think it just the shorter, determined life span of an auto… they will begin to sequin even if the environment is not perfect.

In terms of the flowers… I grow specific autos because imo they are a better high. I’m a connoisseur first so if I couldn’t get flower quality out of autos I would be growing photos. Some of the greasiest, aromatic flowers I’ve grown have been autos…. And you can turn your jars every few months with new flavors

I agree, they were the tastiest i’ve grown to date: its the Cost of utilities that determine which i grow: fixed income :yin_yang::partying_face::palm_tree:

@Chasworks the Toof Decay Auto is at 94 days from seed today and still not finished. The Pinot Noir finely trimmed yielded 113 grams and the Forgotton Cookies did 95 grams (not including the top as I forgot to weigh them). So pretty happy with the 2/3 so far as the flowers are rank.

the Toof Decay is a pretty big girl and Ive taken her top 8 inches now and dropped the lights down on the lowers about 10 days ago. I had placed her top right in between to 550’s and dropped the lights down on the satellites.

After her topping… Flowers are densing up now and she is drinking more than she ever has (late bloomer). Im going to let her go about 100 as the early clips are already super potent.

Some of the early that is fully dried on the Pinot Noir

Anyways… the smoke is gonna be dank till the winter harvest. Gonna just run the one tweener and just started 4 for the winter harvest (Pineapple Runtz, Sour Stomper, Wedding Cake, Pinot Noir… The dankest I currently have in my seed bank)

The lone tweener… Skywalker OG x Samsquanch OG x Northern Cheese.

Ill update in about a week when hopefully she’s ready to chop.

@Chasworks This is a wrap on the Toof Decay… Im gonna let her dry out and chop her on Friday (day 99 from seed).

She really did wait till the last couple weeks to start packing the terps and frost on… I think I could maybe get a little more out of her but she is already a very indica dominant strain.

Toof Decay Auto (Blueberry x Grapefruit) day 97 from seed. Although she took about 10 days longer than normal (she had to have stunted in flower at some point) she kicked it into gear the last three weeks as she started to guzzle the water again. In the end she produced some heavy flowers… decked out in grease and smells great… Definitely more on the blueberry side but the fuel did come in at the end so glad I waited a few extra days.

Very happy she ended up producing some quality flowers as I love the strain and would have sucked to struck out on her as I only dropped one bean. Might drop another late winter or in the spring.

On to the next (the loner) and the 3 or 4 seedlings depending on what I keep as I want to run a quad with just the Pinot Noir.

The loner - Samsquanch og x Skywalker x Northern Cheese Haze - Day 26 from bean drop… Just getting into pre flower stretch. Loving her structure already… Very minimal training and no defoliation yet… Looks like she wants to grow a few main stems on her :). Nice looking auto so far… Hope I don’t screw her up.

I hope that beast is hanging up and drying. Those trikes are very ripe.
It’s going to smoke smooth and nice, I’m sure.

Nice grow.

Hello Robert, you seem to be one of most knowledgeable on here so I’d like to ask you about lighting ,I’m new to led growing and bought a vivoson vs3000 and was expecting a little color out of light not just bright white, only has one control knob which has markings 50% 75% 100%.wondering if this light has what I need for flowering as many photos on this forum have purple tint.any input would be appreciated. Plants are doing great now in veg.thanks in advance

The vs3000 does appear more white… although like other lights in its class claim to be full spectrum or “natural” spectrum they may only have RW( red/white)and the spectrum is not controllable. In most you can adjust intensity as they have a dimmable ballast. Some will have some different red spectrums and some will add some blue light. But in the end, the manufacturer determines the spectrum.

These type of “budget” lights have a lot of pros though… cheap, run cool and you can get them closer to the canopy, and generally provide decent performance for cannabis.

I think for a reasonable increase in budget, you can get far superior lights and you will have your largest incremental gains from the quality of lighting (assuming your other environmental pieces are in order).

I’ve ran with plenty of budget lights but prefer something that runs a little hotter and is fully controllable. And the lamps have to be direct and intense enough to push through foliage and to lowers.

In addition, through much trial and error, I’ve found I want something fully controllable…not just intensity. Obviously I’m running with California Lightwork Solar System for flowering (three 400 watt lights across a 4x8 space). You definitely need adequate cooling to run my setup. I run a 1000w spectra max for veg and an ACI 450 ion board for seedlings).

I have the spectramax and 550s on controller. The spectramax is only two channel (red/white) which is more than adequate for veg and flower.

The 550s are fully controllable for all channels (RWB) and you can adjust intensity individually for each channel and each program has 20 settings so you can dial in the spectrum for pretty much every hour of the day.

I’ve spent the better part of 18 months dialing in my veg and flower programs. You can also add the UVB lights for flower.

The reason I run my lights is for the controllability and the quality of the lamps…cost is the least factor for me as I could run far more expensive lights. These are just what works for me.

For most people, just an upgrade to an HLC or magnolia with a bit more horsepower and more premium diodes would be good enough… I’m just a bit of a nerd when it comes to botany and it’s one of the few things I love other than golf… and both are very trying and rewarding at the same time.

Ultimately, my goal is to mimick the spectrum and intensity of the sun as it travels around the earth :). I like to start out their day with a nice sunrise and let them adjust into a hot blistering afternoon and leave them there for a bit before the day starts to cool to a beautiful sunset before lights out. Right now it is just incremental tweeks here and there. Other than when I’m trying to induce stretch I pretty much stick to my programs.

Thanks for the reply glad I only paid $65 for the vivoson not the retail price.also did you mean HLG for upgrade not HLC, Thanks for your input

Yes, on the HLG… they’re always running sales. Personally I like high grove better but once you get to that level of components it’s just preference.

But also depends on tent size as some lights just won’t be suitable for small tents with low ceilings. For value, I would probably go with magnolia 6 or 4 (high grove) and personally like it better than the Diablo or scorpion based on the deep red spectrums and think they are better regardless of price.

However I would not give my 550s up for either of them because they are just better for flowering cannabis imo.

If i was going two channel for a 4x4 I would go spectramax 750 with the controller and you can pick it up for less than 800 on sale plus the controller is 200. . The Osram diodes are better than the Samsungs.
